They were often worn by gentlemen, in the days when waistcoats were part of a <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">gentleman's</span> everyday attire.<br /><br />The gold hunter pocket watch was attached to a chain, while the other end of the chain was fastened to the waistcoat, ensuring that it could not be dropped or mislaid.<br /><br />They are a lovely watch to look at, and as a child, I found my grandfather's timepiece a wonderful object to look at and admire.<br /><br />The ones I have seen wind up at the twelve o'clock position, and the full cover for the face is hinged at nine o'clock.
